Life Saving Victoria
The realisation that not everyone has had the opportunity to learn to swim came as a shock after growing up in a small Victorian country town where summers were enjoyed swimming at local lakes, rivers, in backyard pools and at the community pool. Now, with a vision to ensure everyone can safely enjoy all aquatic environments and activities, I am striving to increase swimming and water safety skills and knowledge, and reduce drowning rates, across Australia and beyond.
I have been sharing my passion to teach swimming and water safety skills by “thinking outside the box” with the aquatics industry for close to 20 years. I have held many roles in aquatic facilities and, while I believe that traditional swimming lessons are extremely valuable, I also know it’s not the only way. My enthusiasm to think creatively in the water safety space has seen me provided with opportunities to present to the aquatics industry nationally and internationally, as well as lead water safety workshops in both Japan and South Korea.
I’m proud to now be in a role with Life Saving Victoria that requires continual ingenuity, flexibility and encourages creativity. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been an opportunity to take my paints or sewing machine in to work…….. yet!
